Raising Institutional Profile

The Problem

A popular cultural institution’s “serious side” – its research and conservation programs – was largely unknown to the public, foundations, potential funders, and policymakers, resulting in low recognition and funding for its critical conservation and research initiatives.

Our Solution

Metcalf Federal Relations launched a campaign to raise the institution’s image with policymakers and obtain their support. We educated key Members of Congress about the institution’s important research and conservation initiatives at home and abroad. We identified an opening on a newly announced Presidential commission and lobbied to get the institution’s president appointed to the very prestigious national commission. Metcalf Federal Relations drafted talking points and letters for advocates, select trustees and outside supporters to use in calling and writing key White House and Congressional officials.

Our Results

In 2001, President Bush appointed the institution’s president to a highly coveted seat on the 16-member national commission. Additionally, Congress earmarked research funds to the institution for a project which will benefit many other like-organizations in the community. The organization’s enhanced standing before Congress and the Administration has in turn heightened its reputation with foundations and other non-profit organizations.
